Great British Bake Off’s First Deaf Contestant

Tasha Stones will be one of the 12 people competing on the Channel 4 show, and she will be accompanied by a British Sign Language (BSL) interpreter. Seeing this representation on mainstream television is amazing, and a great step forward for the whole Deaf and Disabled community, and we cannot wait to watch the new season!

Clara Holmes ‘BE-YOU-TIFUL’ Editorial Campaign

Content creator, Clara Holmes (@rollinfunky), was recently in OK! Magazine’s ‘BE-YOU-TIFUL’editorial campaign! She said “The work I do makes disabled people feel seen and it means that they are empowered to go after their dreams”.

The fact that magazines are featuring disabled people more and more often (we saw it with Vogue a few months ago), is incredible, and definitely something that more publications and brands in general should be learning from!

Chris Fonseca Is Using Music And Dance To Explore His Identity

Chris Fonseca, a Deaf Black choreographer and dancer, has a new show called “High Times and Dirty Monsters”, where he highlights the importance of representing the experiences of Deaf and Disabled youth. He has created a fully accessible art through BSL, rap, and creative captioning.

We’re absolutely loving this! Especially because the Deaf community is often faced with the same misconceptions that they cannot enjoy music and dance.

Pinterest Launches Inclusive Body Type Technology

With the goal to improve body representation on the platform, Pinterest has introduced some groundbreaking body type technology. It utilises shape, size, and form to identify diverse body types in over 5 billion images on the platform, and it will influence Pinterest’s algorithms to increase representation in search results and related feeds for women’s fashion and wedding-related content.

These are some amazing news, but we would love to see Pinterest do something that involves the Disabled Community as well. You cannot be truly inclusive if you forget about the biggest minority in the world. Disabled bodies deserve to be seen!
