George At ASDA Extends Adaptive Clothing Range

George at Asda has broadened its adaptive clothing range for disabled people. The collection, which includes items for both babies and adults, now includes features like press stud fastenings and hidden hook and loop fasteners to make dressing easier for those with reduced mobility. 

Collaborating with BBC Children in Need, the range also features sensory-friendly elements, including a T-shirt designed by children’s author Liz Pichon, an adaptive bodysuit, Pudsey sweatshirt, and a jogger set.

Instagram Adds Song Lyrics in Reels

The new Instagram feature adding song lyrics to reels not only adds a creative touch to videos but is also a great accessibility feature!

Instagram’s move has been expected by users, especially those from the disabled community, and it aligns with a growing focus on inclusivity in technology and social media, making the platform more enjoyable for a diverse range of users.

‘Mixmups’ Brings Disability Representation to Children’s TV

Rebecca Atkinson, creator of the children’s series ‘Mixmups’ is trying to change how disability is portrayed in children’s TV. Rebecca, who is visually impaired and deaf, believes representation is crucial for children. Mixmups breaks away from conventional portrayals of disability in children’s media, aiming to normalise inclusion and diversity.

Her series features three friends: Pockets, who is visually impaired, Giggles, a cat in a wheelchair, and Spin, who is a non-disabled character. Mixmups showcases an inclusive world full of everyday adventures.

TikTok Adds AR Effects

TikTok has a new feature that allows users to create their own Augmented Reality (AR) effects directly on the app, without the need to use any external tools. You can easily add it to your videos by choosing existing templates and objects.

The move aims to democratise AR content creation, letting more users contribute to trends. This user-friendly feature is strategically timed for the holiday season, potentially opening the door for paid advanced AR effects and encouraging a more creative TikTok community.

Netflix’s New Graphic Design Course

Making Space is partnering with Netflix to introduce a graphic design course tailored to the disabled community.

The five-course tutorial will teach essential elements in design, and aims to upskill disabled artists pursuing a career in graphic design. An amazing opportunity for any disabled artists or those wanting to get in the industry!

Disabled Artists Embracing Virtual Reality

A program in collaboration between Queen’s University and Drake Music NI, is allowing disabled musicians to play virtual instruments through hand movements by using VR headsets.

Recently, they performed with the Ulster Orchestra, challenging stereotypes in the arts.

Ellie Midds x Stylist

Campaign Spotlight: Dream Beds x Shelter

In collaboration with Shelter, Dreams is sharing a children’s bedtime story, ‘A Place To Call Home’, based on the real experiences of two young siblings, with the goal of encouraging support to provide a safe night’s sleep for children in need. The campaign aims to raise awareness about the lack of beds for children in temporary accommodation.
